Whats the fun of baking if you can't share your treats with others?
I am a strong believer that baking is a science, a chemical reaction that occurs from combining the exact amount of each specified ingredient in order to achieve the desired outcome. However it seems this mundane, regimented being is finally loosening up. Well to the extent that for once i made a cake following my own recipe rather than meticulously studying the wise words of Mary Berry.
Since it was one of my best friends 17th birthday on the horizon i decided to spice up my baking repertoire and create a cake from my imagination. Despite this cake actually lacking quite a lot of innovativeness, as i received mass inspiration from attempts I'd found online, I was somewhat pleased with my inventiveness.
The idea was to create a giant Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, as my friend is understandably obsessed with the delicious american chocolate candy. For the sponge i made a chocolate fudge cake and shaped it using the bottom half to a giant cupcake came tin, I thought this formed the fluted edges quite nicely. I then sandwiched the sponge with the best tasting frosting I have yet to come across, I urge you now to try peanut butter frosting, you will not regret it.....unless you posses the common allergy to nuts.....then you should probably steer clear. I was reminded of this risk when my mother came home and was appalled that I found it wise to concoct such a murderous cake in the same kitchen my younger brother has to eat from (my brother's allergic to nuts). In hindsight she may have been right. I then proceeded to lavish the cake in chocolate fudge icing however as I am new to this strange concept of documenting my baking process, I managed to miss out a few vital photos such as the end product. So apologise to all who are lost in despair at the lack of evidence of what the cake actually looked at, I promise I will get better at it! Then again I doubt you actually care...that is if you have even made it this far...and that is if there is even a YOU to address.
Well personally it looked alright and my friends devoured it so I'll take that as a hopeful sign that it tasted alright too, my friends aren't polite enough to eat it for any other reason.
